AUSAF KC-97L Stratofreighter, ca.1950-70s.
Cold War era four-piston-engined American strategic tanker aircraft derived
from the commercial Boeing C-97 Stratofreighter which had its origins in the B-29 Superfortress.
The KC-97L was a late variant featuring two J47 jet engines
which increased the aircraft's speed allowing it to effectively refuel the new jet bombers of the era.
The tanker carried its own gasoline plus jet fuel for air-to-air refuelling.
The KC-97 replaced the KB-29 tanker and was succeeded by the KC-135 Stratotanker.

This aircraft is preserved at Wisconsin National Guard Museum, Volk Field, Camp Douglas, WI.
